Fort Lauderdale Beach, with more than seven miles of beaches, is a
popular tourist destination as more than ten million visitors visit the city of Fort Lauderdale

square miles of water. The wet season from May to October has average high temperatures in the high
eighties fahrenheit and average low temperatures in the low seventies. Many summer afternoons will
experience a brief but heavy rainstorm. The dry season from November to April has comfortable
average highs in the upper seventies fahrentheit with average lows in the low sixties. Occasional cold fronts
can bring colder weather for a few days. Hurricane season runs from June to November with the most
intense activity occurring between August and October.
US Census Bureau estimates show Fort Lauderdale with a 2007 population of 183 thousand
residents within the South Florida metropolitan region of 5.4 million residents. The 2000 census revealed
median household income of $37,887 with 21.7% of the population foreign-born, 69% of whom are from Latin
America.
Fort Lauderdale is also known as a major convention center as 30% of visitors attend
conventions at the city's 600 thousand square foot convention center. Fort Lauderdale also hosts an annual

Public transportation includes the Broward County Transit system with connections to
neighboring systems to the Metrobus in Miami-Dade county and the Palm Tran in Palm Beach county plus the Tri-Rail
commuter rail system and Amtrak. The Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) includes
numerous low-cost carriers which allows it to compete with neighboring Miami International Airport
(MIA). Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades is ranked the nation's third busiest cruise
port.
Fort Lauderdale Beach is approximately twenty-five
miles north of Miami / South Beach.
